CDL Training - Hot Shot

The Hot Shot CDL Program is a a 40-hour course designed especially for drivers seeking a Class A Restricted Commercial Driver License. This training is specifically for drivers who will operate a CMV with an automatic transmission and no airbrakes, often referred to as a Hot Shot License. Although this is a Class A CDL, it has specific equipment restrictions (E,L,O restrictions), it does not qualify a driver to:
  • Operate a tractor trailer combination
  • Operate a CMV with a manual transmission
  • Operate a CMV with airbrakes
This CDL course covers the three areas required by the Federal Motor Carriers Association (FMCSA): theory, range and road. The total in person class is 20 hours (2 1/2 days).
  • Entry Level Driver Training
    • This training utilizes an online platform which can be completed by the students on their own time, at their own pace
    • The time required to complete training can vary by individual but is generall 15-20 hours
  • Ranger Exercises
    • This includces performing a proper pre-trip and post-trip
    • Backing maneuvers including straight back, offset back and alley dock back
  • Behind the wheel on road training
    • Students learn to, and practice, safely operating a vehicle on the road in live traffic
The course fees include all training materials and truck use, including testing at the DOT.

Scheduling will be determined based on student need and school availability.

Pre-requisites: Students must have a valid North Dakota CDL Learners Permit, DOT medical clearance, motor vehicle report (MVR), proof of a clear drug test and must have completed the online modules prior to class start date.

Cancellation & Refund Policy: This class requires a minimum of two students. Class will be cancelled one week prior to class start date if minimum has not been met. Registered students may be transferred to the next scheduled class or request a full refund be issued. If a student wishes to transfer or cancel registration, notification must be provided no less than one week prior to class start date. After this time, a processing fee equal to 10% of the class cost will be incurred.
